Build a Recording Studio at Tulane!
New Orleans has been called the most musical city on earth. Tulane's student body overflows with musically talented students from around the world who are drawn to Tulane and New Orleans because of its musical history, present, and future.
Over the course of the last year, collaboration between the Tulane Studios student organization, the Undergraduate Student Government, and the Newcomb Music Department has produced an incredible opportunity: the creation of Tulane's very first Music Recording Studio. With your support, this student-led project will result in a true jewel of a studio in Dixon Hall. The project is already well under way with plans for architectural renovation including acoustically isolated control and recording rooms, HVAC treatment, an acoustically treated large ensemble recording space, and professional level recording equipment and software.
This Music Recording Studio will amplify Tulane’s interdisciplinary approach to education. Not only will music students benefit from the boundless educational and creative possibilities this studio offers, but students and faculty from other departments will be able to use it for their projects. Student organizations like the pep band and a cappella groups will be able to access this space, increasing the amount and quality of productions coming out of Tulane. This facility will help attract musically talented students to our campus. For these reasons the Undergraduate Student Government took the unprecedented step of partnering with the Tulane Studios student organization and the Newcomb Music Department to help fund this student lead initiative.
Here’s where YOU come in. Our partners and supporters have already committed over $400,000 to fund the architectural renovation aspect of the project. This leaves a gap of $100,000 to fully fund the professional level equipment needed for the space and to create an endowment for its ongoing maintenance. An incredibly generous donor has pledged to MATCH every donation in this campaign, dollar for dollar, to help us reach our goal. That means your gift will be doubled in support of this project!
Working together on this project has been a monumental journey for us. It is a special feeling finally seeing all our effort and momentum bring us to this stage. With your support, Tulane's Music Recording Studio could be completed this year! Let's make it happen!
