Who are we?

My City and Me is a project led by Kate Sawyer, Samy Morton, and Ella Catherine Strahan, participants in the Freshman Leadership Program, and Tulane Jewish Leaders Eliana Chiovetta, Ethan Lewis, and Raphi Miller. All of our leaders are heavily involved on campus, and have been brought together by the belief in the transformative power of art and the value it has in their home, New Orleans. The Freshman Leadership Program (FLP) at Tulane University is a branch of the undergraduate student government in which participants are selected to hone their leadership skills and ultimately carry out their own initiatives. The Tulane Jewish Leaders have been crucial in developing the partnership between Hillel and the Freshman Leadership Program. TJL is Hillel's in-house leadership program and it serves as a unique professional development opportunity through which students develop hands-on experience honing an idea from thought to reality.

Donations are applied to...

Your donation will go to ensuring the opening night and the exhibition are successful. To us, success is making the young artists feel both empowered and honored. This means creating a professional and exciting atmosphere with delicious food, happy guests, lively music, engaging staff and, most importantly, beautiful art. Your donation will help ensure the art is installed in a secure and distinctive way. Each donation counts!

Description

My City and Me is a 4-day arts exhibition at Tulane Hillel celebrating and encouraging young artists in New Orleans. The exhibition is themed around the concept “My City and Me” to showcase art students’ daily lives and highlight the beauty of New Orleans. We will have an opening night of festivities with refreshments, live music, featured artists, guest artists, and other merriment. If you are free to come join us, stop by this March to see your impact!

Why are donations necessary?

We need your support to make sure this exhibition is a hit! We want to show our artists and guests how powerful art, New Orleans, and community support is. Any donation you make will go directly to the exhibition––no conditions and no exceptions apply. Plus, if you live in New Orleans, you can come stop by and see the impact of your donation. We are expecting around 15 young artists to contribute their work and hope you will share in the pride we have in our next generation of New Orleans artists. In the future, we are hoping to make this an annual exhibition. You can help the ball get rolling!
